The NDMA warns of Heatwave in Pakistan starting from 20th May

Heatwave is expected starting tomorrow, according to the National Disaster Management Authority in Pakistan.

 

The NDMA has issued an advisory stating that from Thursday through Monday of next week, Punjab and Sindh are expected to experience severe heatwave conditions.

 

People are urged to take preventative measures and limit their needless exposure to direct sunlight in light of the heatwave and its potentially harmful effects on health.

 

It is recommended that farmers oversee their crops and modify their schedules according to the meteorological conditions.

 

It has also been suggested to livestock owners to shield their animals from intense heat.

 

In Punjab and Sindh, daytime temperatures are expected to stay 4-6°C above average (about 35–40°C) from May 21 to May 23, and 6–8°C above normal (about 45°C or above) from May 23 to May 27.

 

From May 21 to May 27 (about 35–40°C), daytime temperatures in Islamabad, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit–Baltistan, and the State of AJ&K are likely to be 4-6°C above normal.

 

Pakistan likely to experience 3 Heatwaves in the next 21 days warns NDMA:

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Pakistan can see three heat waves in different cities during the course of the next 21 days.

 

Pakistan is likely to see three heatwave spells in May and June, with highs of 40 degrees by May 30th.

 

The first heatwave risk is anticipated in Sindh in Umarkot, Tharparkar, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, and Sanghar, according to the NDMA. Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan in South Punjab will also be impacted.

 

Between May 15 and May 30, the first heatwave is predicted to last two to three days and could reach 40°C. It can feel even hotter than it is.

 

With temperatures reaching 45°C, the second heatwave is predicted to last four to five days in late May or early June.

 

It is predicted that the third heatwave, which will impact Tharparkar, Umarkot, Sanghar, Badin, and Khairpur, will happen in the first ten days of June.

 

How to stay safe during Heatwave:

  • Try not to go outside during the hottest hours:

If at all possible, avoid going outside during the hottest parts of the day. When the weather is cooler, try scheduling your activities for earlier or later in the day.

Wear light, loose clothing since overdressing in the heat might cause you to become dehydrated and heated more quickly. Cotton works great to absorb perspiration and lessen heat rashes on hot days. Always have a small towel and a water bottle with you so you can apply a damp towel to your neck to cool off.
