Police and protesters clashed in Tel Aviv: Gaza war update
Several videos released on social media show that on Saturday night, following a day of marches demanding a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of all hostages, police and protestors battled in Tel Aviv.
In the footage, horse-mounted police and water cannons disperse people who would not leave, leading to violent altercations.
Israeli authorities reportedly arrested two individuals for disorderly conduct at a protest. They left the authorized location, lit fires, and disobeyed police.
Anti-government protest marches in Israeli cities demanded a general election and the return of hostages taken by Hamas on October 7.
Israeli sources claim Hamas’ surprise raid on October 7 resulted in 1,200 deaths and about 250 people taken captive.
Since then, over 35,000 Palestinians have died due to Israel’s retaliatory attack on Hamas in Gaza, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
On Saturday, a large number of demonstrators demonstrated in the streets of Tel Aviv, Haifa, Rehovot, and other cities, denouncing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his handling of the battle against Hamas and accusing his government of corruption.
The families of former and present hostages organized a gathering, demanding that talks with Hamas be immediately resumed in order to “advance a deal that will bring them all back.”
In light of the November release agreement that set free over 100 captives, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) of Israel estimates that Hamas is still holding 125 hostages in Gaza.
At least 37 of the captives who are still in the Gaza Strip, according to the PMO, are dead.
Tuesday will see the start of negotiations for a cease-fire and hostage-exchange agreement, an Egyptian official. The negotiations will take place in Cairo, according to the Egyptian officials.
