Imran Khan’s attorney claims that corruption was at a “peak” in the previous KP government led by the PTI.

Imran Khan's attorney claims that corruption was at a "peak" in the previous KP government led by the PTI.

Sher Afzal Marwat asserts that Mahmood Khan, the former chief minister of KP, currently makes Rs2.5 million daily from one of his mines.

On Sunday, senior leader and politician Sher Afzal Marwat of the Imran Khan-founded Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) acknowledged that corruption was pervasive in the party’s previous Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government.

Marwat, well-known for his blunt style and provocative remarks, claimed during a live session on X Spaces that “people became billionaires but trillionaires [via corruption] in the previous government of the PTI.”

In response to a query, the PTI leader denied having proposed the storyline of imprisoning former prime minister Imran Khan at Adiala Jail rather than at his Bani Gala home.

He said, “Mahmood Khan, the former chief minister of KP, makes Rs2.5 million a day from one of his mines.”

Marwat’s direct and contentious comments have kept him in the spotlight.

He claimed last week that his party was bearing the consequences of two poor choices. Speaking on the “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath” segment of Geo News, the MNA stated that Imran’s request for a political partnership with the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Sherani faction was the first error.

After failing to reach a consensus on seat adjustments for the general elections scheduled for February 8, the JUI-Shirani and the PTI were unable to form an electoral alliance.

He went on to say that their second significant error was to ally with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) and that, as a result of their poor choices, the former ruling party lost 80 seats.

The PTI’s ally in the assembly was irritated by his comments. SIC Chairman Sahibzada Hamid Raza Friday advised the party’s leaders not to publicly air their dirty laundry. He claimed to have much to share but refrained from doing so out of loyalty to the party’s founder, Imran Khan.

The head of SIC strongly objected to Marwat’s remarks and told the PTI to straighten up.

Raza responded to X by saying that PTI friends should settle their disputes at home and emphasized that Khan decided to join the SIC.
