Bodies of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Delegation Recovered from Helicopter Crash Site

On Monday, rescuers discovered the bodies of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister after their helicopter crashed in fog.

This deprived the Islamic Republic of two important figures at a time when unprecedented tensions are roiling the Middle East.

The bodies of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and his escorting entourage have been found by rescue personnel in Iran. Their chopper crashed on its way to a government conference, leaving no survivors. It was a devastating tragedy.

The remote mountainous area where the helicopter crashed down made early rescue efforts more difficult. Emergency personnel put in endless effort to locate the wreckage and recover the bodies of the notable passengers, despite the difficult terrain and unfavorable weather.

Muhammad Mokhber appointed as President of Iran after Ebrahim Raisi:

In accordance with Article 131 of the Iranian constitution, Vice-President Muhammad Mokhber was as designated acting president. Ayatollah Khamenei was the one who informed us with this news.

According to the constitution, the acting president will then supervise a presidential election within a maximum of 50 days, working with the leaders of the legislature and the courts.

He may hold the position for a maximum of three months .

 

What caused Ebrahim Raisi’s Helicopter to crash?

The Iranian authorities have not yet provided an explanation.

Ministers from the government have detailed how the helicopter broke apart due to technical issues in dense fog and rain.

According to Pirhossein Kolivand, the head of the Iranian Red Crescent, rescuers saw the debris at around 01:30 GMT and took around an hour to reach it. The wreckage was located at a distance of roughly 2km.

When they arrived at the accident scene, Mr. Kolivand told state TV that they saw “no signs of life.”

Additionally, State TV aired blurry video of the accident scene, which was visible from across a valley on a mountaintop. It seemed to show several burned shrubs adjacent to the blue-and-white tail of a chopper.

Later, official TV showed images of what appeared to be other portions of the wreckage. Following the announcement of President Ebrahim Raisi and the other passengers’ deaths.

In a video from the state news agency we see the bodies. Rescuers were carrying a body on a stretcher covered in a blanket.

The authorities sent the bodies of those found in the crash to the Tabriz Cemetery.

The chief of Iran’s crisis management agency, Mohammad Nami, provided information to the semi-official Tasnim news agency. According to the source, they identified all the bodies, and they did not need to perform DNA examinations.

Additionally, he said that Ayatollah Al-e Hashem spoke with the head of the president’s office. During the hour that he was still alive following the crash.
