BLACKPINK 1st K-POP Girls to win Brit GOLD Award

The all girl group band BLACKPINK consist of Jennie Kim, Lisa, Rose, and Jisoo.

Released on October 2, 2020, BLACKPINK’s debut studio album, The Album, has put another feather to its cap.

The all-female quartet, made up of Jennie Kim, Lisa, Rose, and Jisoo, celebrated a significant career turning point when their album received a BRIT Gold Certification in the UK, being the first K-pop girl group to do so.

With hits like How You Like That, the album was BLACKPINK’s first full-length release since their 2016 comeback.

Additionally, Cardi B and American singer Selena Gomez collaborated on the album’s track “Bet You Wanna” and “Ice Cream.”

The Album recently received the coveted gold certification from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). The BPI’s certification requirements state that singles must sell 400,000 units to be certified gold, and albums must sell 100,000 units to be certified gold. With this accomplishment, BLACKPINK has made history as the first female K-pop artist to have an album certified gold in the UK.

The album has been officially certified gold by BRIT. BLACKPINK is the first K-pop female group to receive this certification for an album in the UK, making history in the K-pop music industry.

Since making their debut on the music charts with the single album Square One, which included hits like Boombayah and Whistle, BLACKPINK has routinely taken the top ranks.

Square Two was the group’s second release after Square One, and Playing with Fire was another hit.

Their 2018 album Ddu-Du Ddu-Du cemented their place in the world as an international sensation.
